Cardboard Castle Inc. is a full-service production studio specializing in imaginative, high-end visual content. When Cooper Johnson, co-founder of Cardboard Castle, landed on the Portland scene in December 2009, he was fresh off 12 years on the Los Angeles production circuit as a Creative Director, designer, animator, and music video director for bands such as Staind and Hot Hot Heat. Upon opening shop with co-founder Alicia Johnson, many of Cooper’s Southern California clients followed him north, and within their first year on the ground in Rose City, some of Portland’s biggest names came knocking on their door.
Since its inception, Cardboard Castle has worked with numerous clients at the national level, including Staples, Microsoft, NASCAR, and Coors. The studio remains dedicated to bringing new clients to town, working with talented artists, and making visions a reality. According to Cooper, “It doesn’t take a big team, but it takes the right people.” For example, on a recent high-profile project, the Cardboard Castle team joined forces with Produce Row mainstay Mutt Industries to field a production for the latest version of the Nike Hyperdunk sneaker.
The Cardboard Castle team loves being based in Produce Row because “There is so much within walking distance of our office,” including kickboxing, yoga, aerial trapeze, fresh groceries, and fantastic restaurants. An added bonus? Their clients can’t get enough of Produce Row either. “Our clients love Olympic Provisions. Often when guests from the Westside come over for a meeting at our office, it’s as if their whole shop shows up! Fine by us—we love it, too!Return to top ^
