Founded by former Wieden + Kennedy Executive Interactive Producer, Marcelino Alvarez, Uncorked has worked with some of the world’s most iconic brands and agency partners. Over the last couple of years, the company also had the pleasure of working with a variety of funded start-ups to help bring their products to life. The design and development of these products blend Uncorked’s agency and business acumen, where speed and efficacy is crucial to clients’ long term survival.

For both brands and startup, the approach is rather simple: It’s about people.

How will people experience products? Why should they care? Where are they engaging with clients? The Uncorked team works to answer these questions while aligning business objectives, user scenarios, design paradigms and the competitive landscape. This approach is called Contextual Design. From user intent to wireframes, concepts to production-ready assets, prototypes to code, initial meetings to App Store, launch to adaptive improvements: The question of context is central to every angle of Uncorked’s work.

The company was part of the first class of the renown Portland Incubator Experiment (PIE). When fellow PIE company Urban Airship moved into the former Ziba Design building, Uncorked joined them along with Cloud Four and Simple. Later in 2011, as Urban Airship continued to grow, Uncorked found themselves in need of some office space. They fell in love with the industrial warehouse feel of the Central Eastside Industrial District and moved into a space in the Eastbank Commerce Center in November of 2011. Almost immediately, the move paid dividends, as Uncorked began working with fellow ECC resident Trapit on their iPad application, which launched in July of 2012.

Uncorked continues to enjoy the eastside, especially for its accessibility for cyclists, dining options for foodies, and single origin espressos for fuel.
